A family olive oil project at the gateway to the Douro

The Origin

Terra das Lanchas was founded by Tiago Vila Flor in the Guarda region of Portugal, in the historic village of Cinco Vilas, overlooking the Côa Valley.

When Tiago’s grandfather, Amílcar Vila Flor, passed away, he left him a priceless legacy: the family lands along the Côa River. After his grandfather’s death, Tiago felt a responsibility to preserve and honour the land entrusted to him. His connection to the land was not a coincidence, but a deep bond with his grandfather and the landscape that shaped his life.

The Côa River flows into the Douro River, placing Terra das Lanchas at the gateway to the Douro region. Our olive groves are located at the beginning of this historic landscape, where the interior highlands meet the influence of the Douro Valley.

The Land and Terroir

Our olive groves lie between 450 and 720 meters above sea level, at the boundary between Terra Quente and Terra Fria. This rare microclimate creates olives with freshness, aromatic complexity, and balance.

Some olive trees are more than 300 years old. Others were planted by Tiago and his family to ensure the continuity of the grove for future generations. All groves are dry-farmed, shaped naturally by soil, climate, and time.

The Philosophy

We follow a traditional low-density olive-growing system with fewer than 400 trees per hectare, preserving biodiversity and reducing water and fertiliser use.

Our agriculture is organic, without pesticides or industrial farming methods. Animals are integrated into the ecosystem to maintain soil fertility and natural pest control, following ancestral practices.

For us, sustainability is not a trend. It is a responsibility.

Terra das Lanchas produces organic extra virgin olive oil, hand-harvested and cold-extracted to preserve purity, aroma, and nutritional value.

Each can reflects the character of the land and the care taken at every stage of production.
